Hoking For More

Well I missed posting last week (for good reason), so now I have an awful lot to go on about.  Nothing interesting, of course....just lots of stuff.

The reason for missing last week was due to a trip out to New Brunswick to visit my good friends CptSydor and VVagabond....hereby known as the LandHams...

Actually the LandHams are some of the coolest, friendliest people I know...and it is my honour to be their friend.  Anyways, the drive out was nasty hitting a couple of snow blizzards, and having to wait for emergency road crews to clear an accident...but when I got there the LandHams made it worthy...

Although my fatbike may not have agreed...

Anyways with 4 full days out there (I planned to stay for longer, at least until I hit pension age, but they kicked me out after 4 days) we did two-a-days each day....either snow shoeing, or Hok skiing...

on our new Hok skis!!  Huge fun and great workout!!

I only left several arse prints on the trail until I got used to them.

And of course we did a boat load of Fatbiking...in perfect conditions (after over 30cm of snow fell), with close to a dozen different sets of well groomed trails within driving distance.  This is a very well established mountain biking area!

Often we Fatbiked with the locals....these guys are fast!

And I proved I could fall down off my fatbike just as well as I could with the skis!

We were all dog-tired at the end of each day!!

This is the other members of the LandHam family (Rudy, Olive, and Sage).

And while we burned 8000 calories each day, the combination of the LandHam's cooking (and serious chefs extraordinaire!!) and the nightly recovery beverages...I'm sure I gained at least 40 lbs during my stay!  This is me now...

I am still Lois' superman...

Anyways....my drive back was sunny and clear, and as much as I enjoyed my visit (a HUGE Thank You to the LandHams for the terrific hospitality!!!), I was happy to be back home.  And Lois was happy for me to be back...

Well at least the cats were happy I was home...

Well, anyways I am home...

And is it just me or is there a fatbike race going on every weekend these days??  At Albion...at Halton...and DanOfSubstance has an entire Fatbike Marathon Race Series going on.  The last one was just this last weekend at Northumberland Forest...the Snumbler, which apparently went over very well.  And once again, ApexTed and his crew were on scene to record all of the action, find the pics here.  Links to results can be found here for the 40k and here for the 20k.

In case you cannot tell, I am a big fan of Dan and his races.  Always a great mix of challenge and fun.  The next one is the Snophy (OK, I'm not a huge fan of how he names his races...), in Kingston on Feb 6th.

And then there is this...

Nice and local...but if you are not already registered, you may be out of luck.  I believe it has been sold out for days!

I also discovered this stuff recently...

...and it is great!!  What I am most impressed with is that the ingredients are so natural and wholesome!  No unpronounceable chemicals, nothing processed.  And the flavours are subtle but distinct.  I like the cocoa one in my coffee...and I love the maple twist to the vanilla-maple.  (I think there is a coffee flavoured one too, but I have yet to try it).  And the thickness feels like drinking a decadent milkshake.  While the drink is intended as an exercise recovery shake with its protein sources, omega 3s, and its mix of minerals; its macronutrient mix of 8 grams of fat, 20 grams of protien, and 28 grams of carbohydrates also make it a perfect super-healthy simple meal replacement shake.

Anyways, I really like the stuff...so if you are into the healthy food thing, give it a try.  You may be surprised.

Anyways....I appear to have jumped all over the place in this post....are you still awake??  Buehler....Buehler??

Ah well...we will try again next post...I'm out for a ride...in this cold January/February weather...

Stay posted!!

Winter On!

So another Friday...after taking a sabbatical last week (can a sabbatical be only a week long??).  Well, just a sabbatical from the blog.  Still doing the life thing...have been active on the bike.  Have been riding the fatbike almost exclusively...

OK, you got me....that last one isn't me...

This is more my style...

And one of my goals for the off season was to increase leg power, so at the direction of CoachRob I have been hitting the gym regularly...

OK...you got me again...that isn't me.

Actually I don't take any pics in the gym since this guy outlifted me...

I have also been doing some adaptive training with some trail running, and when we get enough snow I look forward to some back country skiing and snowshoeing.  I am lucky enough to have trails right in my back yard.  Also have this in my back yard...

Seriously...anyways...off topic once again?

There was a fatbike race last weekend.  I did not partake (I am totally not in race mode right now...).  It was The Frozen Beaver (hey, I didn't name it...), organized by DanOfSubstance and Substance Projects as the first of the four race series 45NRTH Ontario Fatbike Series p/b Cycle Solutions.  I don't want to say too much about this race as I think Dan is putting an article together and I don't want to scoop him.  I did hear that it was a tough but fun race.  And Dan always brings such a fun, positive vibe to his races.

Giant did attend...and took this selfie at the start line..

ApexRacePhotography was on site to chronicle the event...I will share one pic...

A great shot of Giant and Guy taking the hole shot right off the start!!

For the results (Giant kicked arse!!) and more pics by Apex go here...

BTW, ApexTed posted one of his best pic ever here...

Anyways...Dan's next race, The Snumbler (hey, I didn't name it!!), is January 23rd at Northumberland Forest.

14Stone...new Fatbike model!!  (I know...kind of random)

Maybe we will see you at one of these races!

Monday 4 January 2016

Friday's post Monday?

So, yeah sorry....I got a little distracted by something on Friday...(recovering???); so the post got delayed to today...

Anyways I did manage to get a fair bit of riding in through all of the festivities of the past week...most of it actually stuck to CoachRob's training plan....and most of it was fatbiking...

There was some solo fatbiking...

Some on our local trails...one of my favourite lines...the jump line...

Considered jumping this too...then thought better of it...(although serious insists I should have tried...he's nice like that)...

I have never ridden at Durham Forest, until last week.  Headed out there with Burnsy to meet JeffS and his gang (Hal and GregS)...

The Durham trails are awesome!!  So many hills...and of course JeffS had to find them all...and do them all at Mach10 for 3  full hours.

It got so bad I started to call him 'Shikaze'.  In case you didn't know, 'Shikaze' is an old Metis term that means 'let's find another fricken hill'!!!  Yes, I am an old Meti's....in fact a year older after this last week...

And yes there was a birthday ride...which some of the FatboyNation came down to join me, Fig, Giant, and NewfieSteve...

But it was such deep, wet. sloppy snow and mud that even fatbikes didn't have traction.  Made for a very slow, but intense workout...   I drove Giant mad....he's not used to going so slow...

So we had cake after...

I've also wanted to ride with PinoyPedalPushers all year, but it hasn't worked out....until this last week.  New Years Eve had me and NewfieSteve head to Albion to join the group for a ride...

A couple of hours on Albion's snowy hills...with an Ironman star to make sure we didn't slow down...thank you PinoyRyder!!

Ooops!  Anyways...

New Years day was a ride with the local gang out at Dundas (after a mis-communication with FatboyNation who ended up at Turkey Point!...sorry guys...).

There may have been some recovery juice involved in this ride...but after 2 hours of trying to keep up to Giant (did I mention how fast he is now???)...it was required...

Even managed a 80km CX ride on the road with Giant and Fig....and Fig didn't bonk!!  But it was too dang cold to take any pics...

And to stay true to CoachRob's training plan, I got in some adaptive training in the form of a trail run...

Yeah trail runs scare me....I always think Giant is out there somewhere...ready to attack and pass me...again...

Well that's random...but kinda true...

Oooop....apparently this dog knows me...

Maybe I will have to try this...

Actually I have done OK so far this winter...haven't got too out of hand weight wise...so getting back to race weight should be easy....ish.  (Thank you for spell-check....my fingers spell 'weight' wrong every damn time!)

While we are on random...this was seen out there...

Anyways...before I get too off track...that was my last week....I hope yours didn't leave you too much like this....

Anyways....let's all look forward to the new year...(if not the next blog post...).
I wish you all the best!!
